Boho Wallpapers--Is It Still in Style?

A while ago I took a long sabbatical, traveling from Marrakesh to Istanbul and ended up in Tulum. It was then that I finally grabbed the essence of the “bohemian” style. I have always thought bohemian, or boho for short, means “hippy”, which is not always the case. From my travels I got to see how this style can be so vastly different yet has a common theme. That is, it’s free spirit and fuss-free. Gaining in popularity lately, bohemian style has evolved quite a bit in the last few years. It’s fresher, more modern, and more sophisticated.

Let’s give it a revisit, shall we?

Bohemian style can be separated into two distinctive styles:

One is colorful and exotic, with layers and patterns that are mixed. It conveys faraway travels to exotic places. It’s free flowing, even a little idiosyncratic. I think of designers like Tilton & Fenwick, John Robshaw and Justina Blakeley when I think of this style. Places like Marrakesh, Istanbul, New Delhi exemplify it perfectly.

MODERN BOHEMIAN

The other bohemian style is simple and clean. Tulum, Ibiza, Greece convey the perfect examples of this look. Here you have plain patterns, muted colors and natural materials. You’ll see seagrass used for lamp shade, concrete floor, unstained woods, linen in shades of white gray and beige. Natural lighting and the outdoor is the focus here.

Let’s look at a few examples:

The best and simplest way to achieve both looks is with fabrics and wallpaper.  To see options on boho wallpapers, visit the collection here.

The best thing about bohemian style is that it is easily achieved. It is inexpensive, and I must say, unbelievably forgiven. You don’t need to worry about making everything perfect. You can use flea market items, quilts from your grandma, art from an estate sale. You can mix patterns and colors with abandon. You don’t need to worry about matching things. You don’t have to buy pedigree pieces. This is the perfect style to do on a limited budget.

All it requires is your creativity and imagination!
