Maya Romanoff founded the Maya Romanoff Corporation, a manufacturer of wall covering and surfacing materials in 1969 in the United States. Thanks to his creative genius, he presented to the world never-before-seen wallcovering collections that sparkled and shimmered. Some of the most unlikely materials he used were glass beads, marine shells, and precious metals. At Inside Stores, we carry the complete collection of Maya Romanoff wallpaper and surfacing materials.  Please contact us for pricing or product information. Request a quote.

Maya Romanoff’s history is an interesting example of an American man who uses his talents to accomplish his passion. Born in Chicago, he traveled to Africa and France where he started venturing in textile design with an emphasis on the tie-dye technique. In 1971 he started producing a line of couture clothing, and in 1979 he introduced the first collection of hand-painted wallcoverings. One of his most emblematic collections is the Ajiro flexible wood veneer, which was introduced in 1996. In 2003 he designed and produced a flexible glass bead wallcovering, which he called Beadazzled. This innovation was very durable and luminous and was welcomed in numerous decorative projects. The Mother of Pearl tiles line is presented in 2005, they are made with genuine hand-inlaid capiz shells. Thanks to a collaborative effort with David Rockwell the Stitched collection is created, receiving prizes for its innovation. In 2007 the brand presents the True Metals collection, in collaboration with Nepalese artisans. Continuing with its oriental influence, Romanoff introduced in 2009 a collection of wallcovering consisting of handmade papers traditionally used by Buddhist monks. When Maya passed away in 2014, Joyce, her wife, took charge of continuing his legacy of producing unique products appreciated by the international interiors design community.

Nowadays, the Maya Romanoff brand is strongly committed to green practices. Its wallcoverings are produced by hand utilizing only natural and sustainable materials, like water-based adhesives, colorants, and finishes. The company collaborates with several factories that take care of the environment and of their employees, especially with artisans who live in impoverished areas, thus helping local economies to thrive.
